Huge manhunt for Boston bomb suspect

A manhunt is under way after a dramatic shoot-out and high speed chase between police and the Boston marathon bombing suspects.

OVERVIEW

1: 22:20 (03:20 BST, 19 April) Police officer shot dead at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge.

2: Suspects hijack a black Mercedes SUV at gunpoint. Boston police say the driver was released unharmed.

3: Police chase the car as they head to Watertown. One suspect is fatally injured and the other flees after an exchange of gunfire.

Cambridge shooting and carjacking: 22:20 (03:20 BST, 19 April) - 01:00 (06:00 BST)

Hours after the FBI released photos of suspects wanted in connection with the Boston bombings, a police officer was fatally shot after responding to reports of a disturbance near the MIT campus at about 22:20 local time.

The suspects hijacked a car at gunpoint in the 3rd Street area, holding the driver for half an hour until they released him at a petrol station.

Watertown manhunt: 01:00 local time (06:00 BST) - ongoing

The suspects drove on towards the Watertown area in the hijacked car, reportedly throwing explosives at police before the car crashed. They then exchanged gunfire with police in the area of Dexter and Laurel streets.

One of the suspects was injured and arrested, but died of his injuries at hospital at about 01:35 local time. The surviving suspect fled, prompting a massive manhunt and lockdown as police urged people in the Watertown and surrounding areas to stay in their homes.

Boston Bruins NHL game against the Buffalo Sabres last night was the first major sporting event in Boston since the marathon bombings Monday. There was a moment of silence before the game, and a "Boston Strong" tribute video was played, and even before that, outside the arena, fans hung a Bruins T-shirt with the name of 8-year-old bombing victim Martin Richard, who was a Bruins fans, on the statue of Hall of Famer Bobby Orr. In an emotional highlight, when the National Anthem was sung, regular performer Rene Rancourt began it, but then let the crowd take over, as everyone sang loudly for the rest of the anthem:

After the Bruins first goal of the game, the fans began chanting, "We are Boston!," which has become a rallying cry in the city since the bombing, and both teams saluted the crowd with their sticks up in the air after the Sabres' 3-2 victory.

• The Bruins have donated $250,000 to the relief fund set up for the victims and their families.

Yes, it could be the worst coincidence in the histroy of the world, in which I hope he's not harmed for- but if it's not a coincidence, then we're one step closer to finding out the truth.
